The Importance of Allergen Awareness

The state of Rhode Island requires all foodservice establishments to have a manager who is “trained and knowledgeable about food allergies as it pertains to food preparation.”

This law has been enacted since 2012 after the Rhode Island’s Food Allergy Awareness in Restaurants Act was signed.

The training takes under an hour from start to finish and at the end you will receive a certificate valid for 3 years that will highlight to any Health Inspector your knowledge in Food Allergies.

By the end of this course you will be able to:

      Identify cross-contact risks and understand methods for preventing cross-contact in the workplace through cleaning and sanitizing, good personal hygiene, and controlling the flow of food
      Understand how to listen and communicate with customers who have food allergies, andhow to communicate within the operation from the customer, through front of house to the kitchen, including co-workers, chefs and managers
      Be able to recognize the most common symptoms of an allergic reaction, and how to deal with an attack
