Counties That Accept ANSI-Accredited Certificates
- Suffolk County lists Always Food Safe as an approved Food Manager provider and accepts equivalent certificates issued within the prior 3 years. A certified person must be on premises during all hours of operation.
- Cattaraugus County requires most food service establishments to have a supervisor or manager trained through an accredited program meeting ANSI Conference for Food Protection standards.
- Monroe County requires a Level 1 Food Manager (5-year certification) for high- and medium-risk facilities and points operators to nationally accredited training providers.
- Other counties set their own rules. Call your county health department to confirm before you buy.

- New York City (all five boroughs) requires a supervisor with an NYC Health Department Food Protection Certificate. The final exam must be taken in person. Always Food Safe does not meet this requirement.
- Nassau County requires a Nassau County certified person in each high-risk food establishment. Nassau accepts its own and Suffolk County course certificates, not this one.
- If your establishment is in NYC or Nassau County, please do not purchase this course.

Is food manager certification required in New York?

What happens if I fail the exam?

Can I use my phone or tablet for the exam?
