The Importance of Allergen Awareness

Within the state of Maryland there is one county where Allergen Awareness is required, that is Montgomery County.

According to Montgomery County.gov “any food establishment which is required to be under the immediate control of a certified food service manager must have an employee on the premise at all times when food is being prepared or served, who have taken a food allergen awareness training course and passed an exam.”

The training takes under one hour to complete and upon completion of the exam you will receive a certificate that will satisfy your local Health Department when they visit your premise.

Training Content

By the end of this course you will be able to:
      Understand what are the causes of an allergic reaction
      Identify the 8 main food allergens
      Identify cross-contact risks and understand methods for preventing cross-contact in the workplace through cleaning and sanitizing, good personal hygiene, and controlling the flow of food
      Understand how to listen and communicate with customers who have food allergies, andhow to communicate within the operation from the customer, through front of house to the kitchen, including co-workers, chefs and managers
      Be able to recognize the most common symptoms of an allergic reaction, and how to deal with an attack
